Our Boat is SOLD!

We sold our boat to some very special people from Tampa, FL. Thanks to Earl for making this sad day into a good experience! Our next crazy plan starts today!  Florida to Alaska by road!

The previous entries in this blog tell a lot about our boat but here is a summary and a full inventory:

• History: 1983 Seawind 24, built in Australia (#230). We bought the boat in 2012 from the original owner who had used it as a demo boat for a short while before moving it to the Columbia River, Washington where it was tied to a dock for 20 years. We refurbished the boat in 2012, replacing all the running and standing rigging, and replaced the trampolines with good quality net. We moved the boat to Florida where we have lived aboard ever since except for 2 years while we travelled elsewhere. The boat was under covered storage during this time. We sailed the boat approximately 1000 track miles in total. The boat is in sound condition but needs a bottom clean and new antifouling. It is now anchored at Panama City FL, USA.

• Engine: 2016 Yamaha 6hp four stroke. Has 16 hours run time and can push the boat up to 6mph in calm water.

• Sails: 1 set of Lee sails (Jib, genoa, mistress, and fully battened main) in good condition. 1 set of Smyth sails (Jib, genoa, and fully battened main(one broken batten)) in very good condition. 1 Spinnaker.

• Anchors: 1 x 44lb Bruce (100' chain, 100' rope), 1 x 26lb West Marine 'fortress style' (60' chain, 100' rope), and 1 x aluminum CQR (100' rope). 

• Communication: Uniden handheld VHF

• Emergency/safety equipment: 2 x Type II lifejackets (new), 2 Type IV throw cushions (new), and required flares and signaling devices. 

• Head: A Nature's Head composting toilet. (Coast Guard approved)

• Electrical: Three small solar panels, charge controller, 79 amp hour deep cycle battery, and 400 watt inverter. Sufficient to run laptop, lights, am/fm radio, and charge handheld radio, cell phones, etc..

• Other:  Garmin Fishfinder/depth sounder. Enough new net to replace 2 of the 3 netted areas. (old net still in good condition). Various local area charts. Hardware and ropes for raising and lowering the mast (tabernacle). West marine swim ladder. 2 Boat hooks. Assorted fenders. 1 custom single vinyl covered mattress (new foam). 

• Pros: Shallow draft (1' with rudders and dagger boards up) makes it a great beach cat. Low maintenance. Sails in very light wind, fast in only moderate wind. Wide beam makes it very stable.
